Each string of pearls here is a single path (actually 2, one for the pearls and one for the gold chain linking them). Individiual pearls are a dot from the dotted path style. Live effects give them their 3D shape and color.
This building is an example of "pixel art" where elements are created on a pixel level and have a very pixelated (aliased) look. However, given Fireworks capabilities, this image makes full use of vector objects as well as bitmaps. This increased workflow and made the effects such as transparent glass quicker and easier to create.
This is a simple hour glass made out of vector shapes using 4 rectangles and an hour glass autoshape. The colors of the hour glass portion of the image are a result of using a curves effect with an oval gradient fill.
Pill shaped buttons are all the rage nowadays. Here's an example for you to sink your teeth into. These buttons were created using Fireworks MX 2004's rounded rectangle smart shape and live effects only. Note: If you only have Fireworks MX, the file will still work only the auto shape will revert to a basic group.
Here is an example of using the puzzle piece extension available in the Fireworks extensions section of this site. Each piece was layed out into a box and had each of its edges formed to properly fit into the piece next to it (or made flat if at an edge). The image the puzzle is making was then pasted into each piece making that piece a mask to reveal only the part of the image that would exist beneath that piece (or as that piece). Once each piece is masking the appropriate portions of the puzzle image, they can be moved around and placed in positions not within the completed puzzle group.
