Hierarchal layer system
3ds Max has long been missing a powerful layer manager, that would allow for nested layers. Fangorn's name derives from the ability to organize layers in a tree-like hierarchy. There is no limit as to how deep you can nest layers.
Front end layer material manager
Included with Fangorn is a Material Manager tool for globally managing material assignments with layers. This allows the user to work with layers instead of individual objects in assigning materials.
Mass Layer Property Editing
Fangorn allows one to work with multiple layer properties at one time.
